Each year the City of Calgary teams up with local community associations to help residents get rid of unwanted household items and property waste. Last year, a record of one million kg of waste and nearly 200,000 kg of organics were collected.
The organized Community Cleanup events save residents a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts or for residents who do not have cart service. This service is free of charge to all Calgarians.
Leaves, branches, plants, grass clippings and other yard waste (excluding sod) will be accepted at Community Cleanup events for composting. Yard waste must be separate from other items.
All of the organic materials we collect at community cleanups will be taken to one of the City’s composting facilities.
Sleep Country has donated mattress bags for removal of mattresses with protection from harm like bed bugs. The mattress bags will be available at the community centre on the day of your Community Cleanup.
If you are interested in volunteering at your community’s event, please contact your community association directly.
