Remembrance is about more than looking back at history. It is about honouring the courage, service and sacrifices of the men and women who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today, as well as those who continue to serve.
Here in Calgary, that history is woven into our community. Memorial Drive, lined with trees planted in memory of fallen soldiers following the First World War, stands as a lasting reminder of the local lives lost and the families forever changed by war. Across our city, these memorials connect us to generations of Calgarians who served, sacrificed and helped shape the world we live in today.
As we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, let us also recognize and thank the brave men and women who continue to serve in our Canadian Armed Forces, both at home and abroad. May we never take our freedom, peace or sense of community for granted, and may we honour all who serve, past and present, with gratitude, compassion and kindness.
